Their Story
A GAME FULL OF CREATIVITY.
Where It All Began
Phasmophobia began as a solo passion project developed by Daniel Knight (Dknighter) of Kinetic Games, who wanted a co-op, VR-compatible ghost-hunting game that didn’t exist on the market. Development began around 2018–2019, launching into Steam Early Access in September 2020.
Their goal
The primary goal of Kinetic Games for Phasmophobia is to create an immersive, cooperative, and highly replayable paranormal investigation experience, where the focus is on fun, shared, and tense puzzle-solving rather than just traditional horror. The developers aim to continuously refine the game’s mechanics, graphics, and atmosphere to ensure a high-quality, community-focused, and, ultimately, terrifying, yet enjoyable experience.
Phasmophobia right now
Phasmophobia is currently fully operational with no major reported outages as of early February 2026, featuring over 28,000 active players. Recent updates include hotfix v0.14.2.1 addressing lobby connection issues, and the game remains in Early Access with a major “Horror 2.0” update planned to conclude this phase in 2026.
